My Take
Requiem for a Dream is one of those movies that shows how something we desperately want can slowly become the thing that destroys us.
For me, this movie is not only about addiction. It is about loneliness, dreams, love, validation, obsession, and the human desire to feel that our life means something. Every person in the movie is chasing a different dream, but slowly the dream begins controlling them instead.
That is what affected me most. Addiction does not always begin with wanting to destroy ourselves. Sometimes it begins with something very human—the desire to feel better, to be loved, to succeed, or simply to escape our reality.
The movie becomes more painful as those hopes slowly disappear.
Sometimes we chase a dream so desperately that we don't notice when the dream starts consuming us.
